Steve Pope is new Colwyn Bay boss

Posted by Tim Channon on May 13, 2008 5:33 PM |

COLWYN BAY have appointed former Telford United skipper Steve Pope as their new manager to replace Gary Finley - who signed him as a player last season.
The former Sheffield Wednesday and Crewe Alex defender made only one appearance for the Bay before being sidelined with a back injury, but says he is a winner.
"I've won promotion four times as a player and am use to winning. Now I want to continue that as a manager," he told me.
"I have always given 110 per cent on the field as a player and a captain and will expect that from everybody who puts on a Colwyn Bay shirt."
He was part of the Conference winning Kidderminster Harriers side under Jan Molby and at Unibond level he successfully captained AFC Telford to promotion to Conference North in 2006/07.
Although this is his first job as a manager, he is bringing in a very experienced assistant manager in Paul Ogden to help him.
"Paul has managed a number of teams, including Leek Town, and the contacts he has in the game are second to none," said Steve.
His appointment will come as a quite a surprise, but Colwyn Bay's manageing director Darren Cartwright said: "We had a number of very good candidates for the job, but Steve really impressed us with his enthusiasm and ambition and people we have spoken to have spoken very highly of him."
There is more of Steve Pope's interview in this week's Weekly News.
