Llandudno win at Llandyrnog

Posted by Tim Channon on February 2, 2008 5:44 PM |

LLANDUDNO came from behind to win 4-1 at Llandyrnog United in the Cymru Alliance.
And with Prestatyn Town losing at home to Bala Town, second-placed Llandudno have closed the gap on the leaders to 12 points with two games in hand and are now seven points clear of third-placed Holyhead Hotspur.
They went behind to an early penalty at Llandyrnog, but had turned things round by half-time with Danny Hughes heading the equaliser from a Gwyn Peters free kick and then Grant Montgomery put them in front after a Lee Thomas shot from a corner had been blocked on the line.
Llandudno then dominated much of the second half with Llandyrnog keeper Arwel Hughes making a series of saves, but was beaten when Lee Thomas ran onto a Danny Hughes pass to score Llandudno's third and substitute Jody Hamilton got the fourth with a towering header from a Gwyn Peters corner.

COLWYN BAY suffered a big setback to their hopes of making the play-off with a 1-0 defeat at Carlton Town, conceding a goal in the 90th minute as Carlton completed a league double over the Seagulls.
With two of the top five sides losing and a number of games postponed, this was a big chance lost by Colwyn Bay to make ground in the table.

In the Welsh Alliance Conwy United beat Llanrwst United 2-1 to further close on a top three finish.
Glan Conwy lost 2-0 at Bethesda in the Cookson Cup, while Llandudno Junction's game at Holywell was postponed.
Llandudno Reserves have extended their lead at the top of Division two in the Clwyd League to nine ponts with a 4-1 home win over Caerwys Reserves with two goals by Gareth Evans and one each for Danny Ashe and Zak Evans.
Llandudno Junction Reserves lost ground with a 3-1 home defeat against Prestatyn 3rds with Chris Lloyd getting their only goal.
Glan Conwy Reserves beat Point of Ayr 3-2 in Division One with Jack Roberts scoring twice and Andy Thomas once, but Penmaenmawr Phoenix, Betws-yn-Rhos, Penryhn United and Rhos United all had their games postponed.
More details of all these games in next Thursday's Weekly News.
