COLWYN BAY gave a much improved performance to take the points with a 2-0 win against Nantwich at Llanelian Road on Wednesday night.
They certainly owned their fans one after their second half capitulation against Grantham last Saturday, and they delivered with a hard-working and much more committed display against a Nantwich side who are also chasing a play-off place.
Colwyn Bay got a great start with a goal after 11 minutes when John Lawless pulled the ball back for Robbie Williams to rifle a shot high into the net from the edge of the area.
They put Nantwich under real pressure for the next 10 minutes, but couldn't force a second goal, although Martin Crowder and Lawless both had shots deflected narrowly wide for corners and Lewis Callaghan saw his downward header from a Lawless free kick bounce up and over the bar.
Wright also headed wide from a Neil Black cross, before Nantwich gradually came more into the game.
In the second half the Cheshire side had most of the possession, forcing seven corners to none, but Colwyn Bay defended with great determination and Jamie Speare did not have a save of note to make, apart from neatly grabbing the ball as Nick Farquhamso tried to take it round him in a one on one.
Colwyn Bay played mainly on the break in that second half, but increased their lead on 62 minutes.
Black played in Anthony Wright, who beat a defender before firing in a shot which keeper Lee Jones beat away, and Martin Crowder saw his follow up shot also blocked by the keeper before scoring at the second attempt from the rebound.
Black had a great chance to score a third on a quick breakaway, but put his angled shot wide of the far post, and Wright put another fierce effort narrowly wide in the closing minutes.
