COLWYN BAY went out of the Unibond Challenge Cup on penalties after being denied victory over Premier Division runaway leaders Witton Albion by their goallkeper Craig Ellison.
He made a fantastic double save from Anthony Murt in the final seconds of extra time and then saved two spot kicks in the penalty shoot-out to see his side through.
But the Seagulls can feel proud of an excellent performance in which they had Witton under pressure for a lot of the game, forcing 14 corners to Witton's five. They also showed their battling spirit by twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with a John Lawless penalty and an 88th minute header by Kyle Armstrong from a Lawless corner.
The referee awarded Witton two controversial first half penalties in which they missed one and scored the other.
Neil Black, Martin Crowder and Murt, however, all had chances to win the tie for Colwyn Bay in extra time but were denied by Ellison, who then saved from Paul Williams and Murt in the penalty shoot out as Witton went through 4-2.
