Colwyn Bay and Llandudno win

Posted by Tim Channon on November 10, 2007 7:23 PM |

COLWYN BAY came from two goals down in the first 15 minutes to beat Kidsgrove Athletic 5-2 and continue their improved form.
Manager Gary Finley admitted: "A month ago we wouldn't have got back in the game, but there is a new belief about the side now. That's three wins on the bounce and its coming together for us. Now we need to keep working and climb back up the table."
Indecisive defending allowed Kidsgrove to get their early 2-0 lead with goals from the lively Junior Brown, on loan from Crewe, and a penalty by Michael Lennon after Brown had been fouled in the box.
Straight from the kick off after that penalty, Lewis Callaghan sent Neil Brown clear to chip the keeper to make it 1-2 and Callaghan headed the equaliser himself from a John Lawless cross on 32 minuites.
Mark Quayle fired Colwyn Bay into the lead nine minutes into the second half after Black laid the ball back to him from John Boardman's free kick, and Black headed the fourth from a Martin Crowder free kick.
Colwyn Bay played some good stuff in the second half and on 76 minutes man of the match Black played the ball back into the goalmouth from a deep Lawless cross for substitute Anthony Murt to score the fifth, and Murt could have got another when he was clean through on goal but saw his shot saved by Kidsgrove keeper James Coates.
Lawless was again a key figure and I was also impressed by Jamie Speare's sound handling at the back.
LLANDUDNO got themsleves back in the title picture at the top of the Cymru Alliance with a 4-0 win at Gresford Athletic, whikle Prestatyn were held to a 1-1 draw by Flint after Bala lost 4-2 at Queens Park on Friday night.
Goals from Jody Hamilton (17mins), Bryn Jenkins (34mins), Lee Thomas (47mins) and Anthony Tierney (82mins) gave Llandudno the points and they are now back to just two points behind Bala on the same number of games, and eight behind leaders Prestatyn with two games in hand.
In the Barritt Cup Penmaenmawr Phoenix scored three goals in the last 14 minutes to come from 2-4 down to beat Welsh Alliance side Pwllheli 5-4.
Glan Conwy won 3-0 at Bodedern, Llanrwst United beat Porthmadog Reserves 1-0, and Llanfairfechan Town won 3-2 at Rhyl Nomads.
Llandudno Junction, however, lost 4-3 at home to Llanytsumdwy and Conwy United were beaten 1-0 at Bethesda.
