COLWYN BAY......................................2 BAMBER BRIDGE............................1
COLWYN BAY will play Premier Division leaders Witton Albion at Llanelian Road next Tuesday for a place in the last 16 of the Unibond Challenge Cup, after coming from behind to win for the second time in four days.
In a game played at tremendous pace, Colwyn Bay were close to scoring in the opening minute when Mark Quayle went through but saw his shot cleared off the line after beating the keeper.
Bamber Bridge gradually got the upper hand after that, with Jamie Speare forced to make a good save to turn a rasping shot from Steve Brown round the post, before the visitors took the lead on 31 minutes.
A long throw in was flicked on at the near post to produce a goalmouth scramble from which Neil Spencer scored from close range.
But the Seagulls are made of stern stuff these days and they pressed hard late in the half with Bamber Bridge keeper keeper Terry McCormick beating away a shot from John Lawless, while Tim Brandreth and Adam Wade both went close.
A free kick for a trip on Lawless just outside the area then produced the eqauliser in added time, as Martin Crowder crossed for Neil Black to power a header into the corner of the net.
With the wind behind them in the second half Colwyn Bay made an early substitution with Anthony Murt coming on for Quayle and he got the winning goal on 61 minutes.
Good attacking play saw Neil Black hold the ball up well before feeding Crowder on the left and his perfect cross was headed in by Murt from six yards out.
Black had a great chance to add a third put put his angled shot wide when one on one with the keeper.
Bamber Bridge came back strongly late in the game and should have equalised by Spencer turned the ball onto a post from close range after Speare could only parry a shot from Alec Porter.
Colwyn Bay: Speare, Wynne, Wade, Brandreth, Armstrong, Callaghan, Crowder (Paul Williams 74 mins), Olsen, Black, Quayle (Murt 58mins), Lawless. Sub not used: Walker.
